Who is the Mat-Su Youth Action Board (YAB)?

The Mat-Su Youth Action Board is a community of young leaders with lived experience of homelessness working to create a community where every young person is safely housed.

Our Youth Action Board comprises indigenous, black, white, and mixed young people who have all experienced homelessness and institutional systems. We are all here to truly make a meaningful difference. Our long-term goal is to create high-quality educational and employment opportunities.

Our Mission: The Mat-Su Youth Action Board is working towards enabling local youth and young adults to share their experiences and meaningfully influence our strategy against youth homelessness.

The Mat-Su YAB community offers a diverse, safe, and supportive network for at-risk youth transitioning to adulthood. Our goal is not just to provide a safe haven but also to empower individuals to work towards their aspirations. We promote the voice of the youth, enabling connections and contributions from those who have overcome similar challenges, thereby nurturing the community. We ensure our space radiates safety, resource availability, support, love, and connectivity. Our advocates work tirelessly to raise awareness about youth services, present professional development opportunities, and foster community connections. Each member's unique experiences contribute valuable insights, aiding in strategizing and preventing youth homelessness.
