Local, Statewide & National Advocacy

In an on-going effort to improve our youth homelessness response system around the country; advocacy and leadership within Youth Action Boards are key to making a meaningful change within our youth-specific services. The Mat-Su Youth Action Board has taken a huge community role in creating a “good path” for youth and young adults experiencing homelessness or at-risk of being homeless.

The Mat-Su Youth Action Board currently leads a youth-inclusive community coalition, formed in December of 2019 to help improve the homelessness response system.

It all begins with a passion. Maybe you want to help change our educational system. Maybe you want younger people to be part of federal decisions. Maybe you want to help a friend out who is struggling but there are no resources available. Maybe you want to turn a hobby into something more. Or maybe you have a creative project to share with the world. Whatever it is, the way you tell your story can make all the difference.

Understanding and knowing how to advocate is important and one of YAB’s key focus points. Don’t worry about sounding professional. Sound like you. Be clear, be confident and don’t overthink it. There are over 8 billion stories out there, but your story is what’s going to separate them from the rest. The beauty of your story is that it’s going to continue to evolve and your efforts can evolve with it.
